1. Computer Science and Technology

Computer Science and Technology, aims to cultivate professional talented persons, who have moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development, and with basic scientific literacy system, master the basic theory of computer science and technology, grasp the basics and methods of rail information technology, have good capabilities of practicability, systematical analysis and development to meet the needs of social and economic development. The students after graduation can engage in applied research, technology development or management, and have the ability to continue to learn at work and constantly update their knowledge. After about five years of practice and training, they will become senior professionals in the computer and related fields.

This profession has a long history of more than 50 years, and has disciplines of doctorate and post-doctoral programs in “Computer Science and Technology ". It is a national specialty construction point, and the key discipline of Sichuan Province. It is ranked as Top Class A+ in the nationwide undergraduate education professionals, and is one of the first three universities in the western region certificated by the National Engineering Education Accreditation. The professional has a high-quality, reasonable structured university level teaching team. With hands-on learning and practice through courses combine training mode, this professional has cultivated high quality graduates with solid knowledge, professional skills, who work at well-known IT companies, large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises and research institutes.

 

2. Network Engineering

Network Engineering aims to cultivate professional talented persons, who have moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development, and have solid natural science foundation, good humanities and social sciences foundation and comprehensive capabilities of foreign languages. They systematically grasp the basic theory and knowledge of the field of computer and network communication technology; master the theory, method and technology of planning, design and evaluation for various types of network systems; obtain good engineering practice training in design, development and application of computer hardware and software, networking and communications systems. They have expertise to meet the needs of social and economic development. After graduation, they engage in applied research, technology development or management of computer and network communication, and continue to learn at work and to constantly update their knowledge. After around five years of practice and training to become a senior professional in the field of computer and network communication.

This professional is a part of the Department of Computer Science and Technology, which has a sufficient quantity, quality and reasonable structured teaching team. The professional has a certain influence in the country. The Network and Information System Sub-Committee of Southwest and Sichuan Computer Society are anchored in our school for a long time. The graduate employment widely engages in research, teaching, design and development of network and computer communication systems, which are welcomed by the employers.

 

3. Software Engineering

The Software Engineering Program aims to provide professional education that nurtures competent and employable students. The education makes them have basic scientific literacy, systematical software engineering theory and professional knowledge; be familiar with the process of software project development, management methodology, software engineering specifications and standards. Furthermore, the students are trained to have strong software development capabilities and good qualities of software engineering; become the expertise for the need of socio-economic development.

The program belongs to the Department of Software Engineering. It is one of the first national software engineering programs and the first “excellent engineer education training plan” program set by the Ministry of Education in China. The program has the right to award the first-level discipline doctorial degree of Software Engineering. It has an integral personnel training system in the undergraduate, the master and the doctor degrees and ranks in the A class in “Chinese Undergraduate Education Professional Ranking”. The program has a vigorous teaching and research team with high qualities of professional skill and cooperative spirit. The program focuses on training the students’ ability of software development and makes them possess the quality of software engineering. Special efforts have been put on training the students with the Software Engineering process and methods. So the students have solid academic foundation, reasonable knowledge structure, strong software design & development capabilities, teamwork spirit and necessary software engineering qualities. Graduates are mainly employed in the well-known IT enterprises, institutions and research institutes and praised by the employers. There are about 20% undergraduate students recommended for admission to be a postgraduate for master or doctoral degree without exams.

 

4. Communication Engineering

This program pays attention to the cultivation of conviction, good moral character, advocating science, and the pursuit of excellence. In keeping with our emphasis on broad-minded learning we have designed programs and courses that cater to students at multiple levels and fully incorporate laboratory research, we aim to help our students solidify a basic underlying scientific and engineering principles, which will definitely allow students to hone life-long skills to question, analyze, and develop solutions to all of the challenges in communication and information system, as well as track and rail transportation communication. Our education will transform students into well-trained professional engineers with the skills and vision to enable them to progress further in their career path in scientific research, engineering design, equipment manufacturing, operation and management, as well as innovative R&D and advanced scientific research.

There are 26 faculties and staffs in this program. Among all faculties and staffs, 25 members received their doctorate degree in related disciplines, and 22 members are senior faculties. Most of our faculties are national level and/or provincial level recognized mainstay in scientific and technical work. In recent years, the faculties of this program received a large number of scientific research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology, China (MOST), such as the national "973” and "863" research project, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), such as the key research grants from NSFC,which makes our students always be aware of the on-going technology development in communication and electronics discipline.

The graduate employment rate of this program is above 98%. Among them, >35% of graduates pursue their postgraduate study. The graduates of this program received widely favor and praise thanks to their wide range of knowledge as well as impressive their practical abilities. Most of the graduates of this program will be recruited by government department, research institutes, telecommunication operator, engineering manufacturers and enterprises as well as track and rail transportation department. 

 

5. Information Security

The major of Information Security is aimed at training the high qualified specialists with excellent scientific literacy who master the fundamental and professional knowledge of information security and can independently engage in the research, design, development, project implementation and maintenance of the information security systems. The graduates not only have the basic knowledge of computer and communications network security and software (hardware) development capabilities, but also master the theory and technology of cryptography. In the departments of government, national defense, scientific research, Enterprises and institutions, the graduates engaged in law enforcement of information security management, security information systems design, research and development of information security products, operation and maintenance of information security infrastructure, integration of information security products or consulting services of information security technology.

Our university was approved to establish the undergraduate major of “Information security” by the Ministry of Education in 2001 and was authorized to grant the bachelor’s degree. It is one of the few universities which set up the undergraduate major of “Information security” firstly in the nationwide. This major belongs to the department of communication engineering with a faculty of reasonable structure and high level of academic. The students have the high overall quality, strong specialized knowledge and professional skills, which enable them won the prizes in the National Discipline Competitions in recent years. The graduates have multiple choices for their job and the employment rate has remained over 95%, they are warmly welcome to join the employing units. The proportion of graduate students among undergraduates is over 40%, which includes around 20% students recommended for admission in and out of university.

 

6. Automation

The Automation specialty aims to bring up specialized talents in areas of automation. It offers students with basic theories and knowledge in areas of automation and helps them to master foundational knowledge and methods related to automatic test and control as well as skills used in railway traffic monitoring, industrial process control, signal acquisition and information processing.

This specialty belongs to the Department of Automation, and is known as a brand specialty in Sichuan Province and is selected in the excellent engineer education plan of ministry of education of China. With high-quality teaching staff, our specialty applies automation technologies to railway transportation to train engineering talents in hardware, software and remote telecommunication technologies in transportation industries. The career opportunities for graduates are promising with abundant choices. Each year about 20% students are admitted for direct study of Master degrees with exemption of examination and our employment rate has been above 98% for many years. Our graduates are widely spread in research institutions and different kinds of enterprises across various sectors, such as railway transportation and IT industries.

 

7. Railway Signaling and Control

The Railway Signaling and Control specialty aims to bring up specialized talents in areas of railway signaling and control. It offers students with basic theories and knowledge of electronic science, computer science, control science and communication science, and helps them to master foundational knowledge and methods related to railway signaling and control as well as skills of request analysis, engineering design, system development and engineering training used in railway signaling monitoring and process control.

This specialty belongs to the Department of Automation, and is known as a brand specialty in Sichuan Province and is selected in the excellent engineer education plan of Ministry of education. With high-quality teaching staff, our specialty applies information and control technologies to railway transportation in hardware, software and remote telecommunication technologies. The career opportunities for graduates are promising with abundant choices. Each year about 20% students are admitted for direct study of Master degrees with exemption of examination. Our graduates are widely spread in research institutions and different kinds of enterprises across various sectors, such as railway transportation and IT industries, and the employment rate has been above 98% in recent five years.

 

8. Electronic Science and Technology

The major of Electronic Science and Technology (direction of microelectronic technology) aims to train the professional graduates, who have basic scientific literacy, master the basic theory of semiconductor devices and integrated circuits systematically, possess the expertise of IC design and manufacture and the ability of practice、system analysis and development, ultimately meet the needs of social and economic development.

This major, which belongs to the department of electronic engineering, owns a structure-reasonable teaching team composed of doctoral tutors, professors, associate professors, lecturers. As the national experimental teaching demonstration center, its electronic technology laboratory has cooperated with Xilinx, Altera, Fujitsu, et al, and establish the joint laboratory. This major pays attention to train the undergraduates’ ability of practice, system analysis and research, emphasizes the combination of expertise and professional skill so as to improve theirs overall quality. The students of this department won the 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes in the national undergraduate electronic design contest. During the past years the employment rate remained at over 97%, the proportion of the students passing the postgraduate exam is over 30%, the proportion of those recommended for postgraduate study is about 14%; there were the graduates throughout the microelectronics industry, IT enterprises, related research institutes and public institution. In recent years, there are several excellent graduates, who have got the national qualification of studying overseas, and sent to US, Europe and Japan to work on the diploma degrees.
