  According to international frontier disciplines and significant national applications, the CIPC focus on high-speed optical communications and optical information processing, optical networks and software-defined network (SDN), microwave photonics and radio over fiber technology, nonlinear/chaotic optics and secure communication, micro-nano photonics and optical sensing, and so on. The research areas also include smart sensing and detection, security control, and network optimization for practical engineering applications, due to the national strategy on internet of things and national/regional requirements on the rail transportations.
  The principal members of CIPC are listed as follows: Professor Wei Pan (expert supported by special allowances of national government, consultant of 973 program, academic and technology leader of Sichuan province), Professor Lianshan Yan (outstanding young scholar of NSFC, distinguished lecturer of IEEE Photonics Society, and new century excellent talent of Ministry of Education), Professor Bin Luo (young talent in science and technology of Ministry of Railways, outstanding cross-century young academic leaders in Sichuan province, Associate Professor Xihua Zou Zou (Humboldt research fellow, scholar, new century excellent talent of Ministry of Education, and winner of nomination award for national excellent doctoral dissertation), Professor Liyang Shao (winner of Australian Endeavour award, member of talent introduction program),  Lecturer Zhiyong Zhang (post-doctoral), 23 PhD candidate, and more than 70 master students. For achievements in talent training, several distinguished awards and honors have been granted to the graduates, including for instance: 3 winners of thousand youth talents plan/new century excellent talent of the Ministry of Education/Youth Science and Technology Award Sichuan, 3 nomination awards of national excellent doctoral dissertations, and 17 wards of excellent doctoral/master dissertations. At the mean time, the graduates have received good reputations in employment, of which most were recruited by first-class universities (985/211 program), backbone enterprises (e.g., Huawei, ZTE, CASCO, China Mobile, China Telecom, and so on), and famous institutes (e.g., CETC 54/10/30, Sifang rolling stock research institute).
  In the academic research and engineering applications, the CIPC is funded by more than 10 national projects (e.g., the “973” program, national programs for international S&T collaboration/NSFC), 6 key projects of Ministry of Education/Ministry of Railways/Sichuan province, more than 20 general provincial-level/military projects, and more than 20 R&D projects from industry. We have published more than 130 SCI-index papers in peer-reviewed international journals (e.g., IEEE, OSA), more than 110 papers in first-level domestic journals(e.g., Acta Physics Sinica, Acta Electronica Sinica, Acta Optica Sinica, Journal of the China Railway Society), and 15 invited talks in international conferences.
In engineering applications, a series of prototypes and products are developed for opto-electric detection systems, rail transportations and internet of things, along with the second S&T in military and more than 20 granted Chinese patents. Selected products include the section communication system for railway, the optical axle counting system, the bridge health monitoring systems, and the ultrasonic anemometers, ect. For international exchanges, the CIPC hosted several international conferences such as the SPOC’2011 and the ICOCN’2013, and more than 40 plenary talks given by domestic/international academicians or fellows. The members of CIPC serve as active TPC co-chair/members of OFC, ECOC, and associate editor of IEEE Photonics Journal. The CIPC is also granted with 6 international collaborations projects from Ministry of S&T, NSFC, Sichuan Province, and Ministry of Education.
