PhD Candidate Li Jie Wins the IEEE Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award on IEEE ISIT

PhD candidate Li Jie wins the IEEE Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award on IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (IEEE ISIT) held in Aachen, Germany. A Generic Transformation on Optimal Repair Bandwidth and Rebuilding Access in MDS Codes authored by Li is the first paper that gains the award.

The institution indicated by the main author of the paper is SWJTU. The paper is jointly completed by Prof. Tang Xiaohu of SWJTU and Prof. Tian Chao of the University of Tennessee.

Recently, as communications and computing technologies progress, the mobile Internet has witnessed a rapid development and massive sets of data are generated accordingly. Distributed storage system is a promising storage technology for massive sets of data, which has been valued by both the academic circle and the industry and applied to cloud systems such as Windows Azure and Facebook. A Generic Transformation on Optimal Repair Bandwidth and Rebuilding Access in MDS Codes proposes a generic transformation on maximum distance separable (MDS) code, which can convert any non-binary MDS code into another MDS code to enable the optimal repair bandwidth and the optimal rebuilding access for all nodes. This greatly reduces repair costs and is easy to implement.
