内容提要(Outline of the Talk :

Abstract: Due to its inherent advantages, optical wireless communication (OWC) technology can be used in a vast number of scenarios, which include both large and small-scale applications. In order to realize the corresponding research opportunities and the differences between these two types of applications, in the first part of this talk, the utilization of OWC technology as access network will be presented. Moreover, a case study will be provided, which will focus on the coordination of visible light communication technology (VLC) and radio frequency (RF) with common backhaul. On the other hand, the second part of this talk will be dedicated on the utilization of OWC in small-scale applications, while a specific scenario will be discussed from the area of transdermal communications. Finally, some interesting concluding remarks and future research direction will be provided.

George K. Karagiannidis: George K. Karagiannidis is currently Professor in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Dept. and Director of Digital Telecommunications Systems and Networks Laboratory.  He is also Honorary Professor at South West Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China and recipient of the grant High-End Foreign Experts from the Chinese Government. His research interests are in the broad area of Digital Communications Systems and Signal processing, with emphasis on Wireless Communications, Optical Wireless Communications, Wireless Power Transfer and Applications, Communications for Biomedical Engineering, Stochastic Processes in Biology and Wireless Security.He is author or co-author of more than 500 technical papers published in scientific journals and presented at international conferences. Dr. Karagiannidis is one of the highly-cited researchers across all areas of Electrical Engineering, recognized as 2015, 2016 and 2017 Thomson Reuters highly-cited researcher.
