报告题目:Incremental Learning with streaming datasets in Spark's Rho Architecture

报告内容提要(Outline:

I will present a new incremental learning algorithm to analyze streaming data using the generalized linear models. Our proposed method is developed within a new framework of renewable estimation, in which the maximum likelihood estimation can be renewed with current data and summary statistics of historic data, but with no use of any historic data themselves.  In the implementation, we design a new data flow, called the Rho architecture to accommodate the data storage of current and historic data, as well as to communicate with the computing layer of the system in order to facilitate sequential learning.  We prove both estimation consistency and asymptotic normality of the renewable MLE, and propose some sequential inferences for model parameters.  We illustrate our methods by numerical examples from both simulation experiments and real-world analysis.

 

主讲人简介

Dr. Song is Professor of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  He received his PhD in Statistics from University of British Columbia.  Dr. Song’s research interest concerns primarily the development of innovative data analytics for the analysis of health big data. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles to date, with more than 5700 citations according to the Google Scholar. He is Fellow of the American Statistical Association, and Elected Member of International Statistical Institute.  He was the recipient of John von Neumann’s Award for the excellence in Mathematics in Germany, year 2013.  He has served as the Principal Investigator of several NIH-funded R01 and NSF-funded projects. His studies have been covered by main stream media, such as CNN, CBS, Yahoo!News and MNS Health. He is Associate Editor of Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Multivariate Analysis and Canadian Journal of Statistics.  He is a specially invited biostatistics reviewer for Kidney International, one of the leading international journals in Nephrology.  He has provided biostatistics consultations to several leading pharmaceutical companies such as Roche, Merck and Biogene. He supervised 22 PhD students and 4 postdoc trainees. His mentees won over dozen international awards including the prestigious John van Ryzin Award and David P. Byar Young Investigator Award.
